A brand new show about Johnny and other apple heroes!

The Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre Company will present three showings of “Appleseed!” on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in the Salsbury Room at the MacNider Art Museum at 10 am, 1 pm, and 6 pm. All shows will be free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served. Doors will open for seating 15 minutes before each show. This free show is made possible by a grant from the Bertha Stebens Charitable Foundation. Masks are optional.

Eulenspiegel Puppets performs an exciting story about Johnny Appleseed’s true adventures and his relationships with the settlers, the Native Americans, and the animals and plants around him. Watch him make friends with a wolf, rescue a starving horse, and make a home in a hollow tree stump

The story goes on to tell about other apple heroes, including Henderson Luelling, who traveled across the US from Iowa, across the Rocky Mountains to Oregon, with a wagon loaded with 300 growing apple trees!

Johnny, Henderson, and the others battle the wilds and weather and meet creatures of all kinds in this rousing show! Watch hand puppets, tabletop puppets, and pop-ups and enjoy whimsical music composed by Ron Hillis and performed live by Alex Flesher!

Age group: 5-95 (best for K-6)

Groups of 10 or more (schools, home school groups, daycare, etc.) should register in advance for the 10 am & 1 pm shows by calling 641-421-3666 or emailing jmbohl@masoncity.net. Schools are eligible for a bus subsidy while funds last.
