The Museum's mission is to provide experience in the arts. Musical, theatrical, dance and other special programs relating to the arts are held throughout the year. Various programs offered include the annual MacNider Arts Festival and Holiday Open House, Puppet Performances, Film Series, and Kids' Club.

All events take place at the MacNider Art Museum, 303 Second Street SE, Mason City, Iowa, and most are free and open to the general public. Many are held in the Museum's Salsbury Room on the second floor.

Join the Museum for its annual fundraiser Artoberfest! Enjoy fantastic food, wine and beer samplings from area producers, and impressive live and silent auction items. Tickets cost $40; call 641-421-3666 to order.

 

Tuesday, September 21 @ 6:30 to 8:30 pm - Kids' Club Day: Let's Get to Work!

Kids will use industrial tools and supplies to create art. Kids' Club is an activity-based exploration of the visual arts and the treasures of the MacNider Museum for children ages 5 through 12!  Please call the Museum in advance to register your child.

Saturday, October 9 @ 1 to 3 pm - Lions Club Peace Poster workshop

The Mason City Noon Lions Club and the Museum will be holding a workshop for area 11 to 13-year-olds wishing to enter the Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest.   

Fifty children are invited to attend the two-hour workshop at the Museum. During this time, kids can use the Museum’s art supplies to create a Peace Poster that represents this year’s theme of “Vision of Peace.” If a child does not finish his or her poster during the workshop, the poster may be turned in to the Museum by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16. Only entries started at the Museum will be accepted. From the workshop participants, one poster will be chosen to advance to the district level of judging. To enter your child, call 641-421-3666.

 

Thursday, October 14 @ 7 pm - Puppet Show: The Education of a Donkey

Enjoy a show about Till Eulenspiegel, a stuffy University Rector, and a loveable donkey that learns to read. Presented by Eulenspiegel Puppets, it is performed with a cast of beautifully crafted hand puppets and rod puppets, a block-printed, Medieval looking set, and the original live music of Ron Hillis.  Made possible by a grant from Bertha Stebens Charitable Foundation.

 

Saturday, October 16 @ 5 pm - Area Show: 42 closes in the Kinney-Lindstrom Gallery

 

Tuesday, October 19 @ 6:30 to 7:30 pm - Kids' Club Day: Groovin' with Gourds

Kids will create out-of-this-world gourd creatures. Kids' Club is an activity-based exploration of the visual arts and the treasures of the MacNider Museum for children ages 5 through 12!  Please call the Museum in advance to register your child.

 

Friday, October 29 @ 5 pm - Marc Sijan: Being Alive opens in the Kinney-Lindstrom Gallery
